Joe Kudla — a former accountant who'd also modelled — founded Vuori in 2015 in Encinitas, California. The pitch: premium performance apparel inspired by the active coastal-California lifestyle, an integration of fitness, surf, sport and art.
It was bootstrapped out of a small space. By 2021 SoftBank had invested $400 million at a $4 billion valuation.
INVESTMENT IN HAPPINESS
"Love it or send it back" is the product guarantee. But Vuori frames its "Investment in Happiness" more broadly — investing in its team, its community and the environment.
On the environmental side, about 56% of its fabric spend in 2024 went to Vuori Preferred Fibers. It designs products to last, and it has partnered with CleanHub since 2019 to remove plastic waste from coastal communities.
